May
We made the most of the lovely sunshine in May, with lots of time spent outside when we can, observing the changes in the nature around us as we approach summer! This year is flying by! We had a fantastic Christopher Columbus workshop, where we looked at the different objects explorers, like Christopher Columbus, used. We wrote our own diary entries as if we were explorers on a ship, and even created our own maps! On Fridays, we have been really focusing on our computing skills. We first had to learn how to independently log in and have now progressed to completing Natterhub lessons, we found it very exciting to be able to send our own comments to each other! Finally, we enjoyed a very exciting 'animated objects' workshop, where we used clay to make our own pirate themed sculptures, we made boats and starfish and they looked amazing!
April
Well to say that we spent 2 weeks of April on our Easter holidays, we really made sure that the rest of April was cram packed! We started the month with our 'artist study' with Miss Dixon. We looked at Gustav Klint's art work and created a pipe cleaner tree and a lovely metallic painting inspired by this, they looked amazing! After becoming experts at making things with pipe cleaners, we made bunny ears and enjoyed some Easter treats on the last Friday before the holidays!
When we returned from the Easter holidays we were really excited to tell each other about what we had been up to over the two weeks, it sounds like everyone was very busy! We jumped straight into some golf sessions with Ivan the golf coach, and it is fair to say that we are super listeners! We have learnt that golf is a quiet sport and requires a lot of concentration! In science, we have been looking at body parts on the outside and inside of our body and have had a go at labelling these on pictures of ourselves, and on outlines of a body. Our new English topic is pirates! We have had two very exciting experience days to get us started. First, we pretended our playground was a pirate ship and had a go at each of the jobs that the pirates used to have on a pirate ship, it was very hard work! For our second experience day, we tried a pirates diet! We were far from impressed, and are very pleased that we don't have to eat a pirate's diet all of the time!!
March
What a fabulous month March has been! To celebrate science week, we had two super science workshops, one where we built bird boxes and another where we learnt all about hydrogen cars - it was so exciting! In our science lessons, we have learnt all about different types of plants and have labelled plant parts. Linking to this, in DT we sewed our very own seed pouches! To make this even better, for some of our DT lessons we had some parents in to help us. We love having visitors in our class and showing off our fantastic behaviour and work! We have been learning lots about the Easter story and have retold this in RE, as well as writing our very own versions of the Easter bunny story in English. We became poets during March, too, when we wrote our own spring poems with some tricky rhyming words. We are definitely ready for a break after our hard work this month, have a lovely Easter!
February
In February, we have been as busy as ever! We have been exploring numbers to 40 and some tricky word problems in maths; we have had to use our perseverance to keep having a go at them! We wrote some fantastic character descriptions of Thumbelina and our own version of Jack and the beanstalk. We finished february by thinking about courage. We wrote some lovely letters to our Beeford pen pals, talking about a time when we have shown courage. We loved reading the responses we got, too! We were very excited to celebrate 100 days of school. We had a lovely party in the classroom with snacks and crafts, check out our 100 day glasses!
January
Happy New Year! We have packed lots of exciting things into the month of January! In RE, we have considered our special places at home and in school. Some of our favourites at school have been the reading garden, the bars, the monkey bars, the piano and outside in the garden and with the trees. In English we have been busy writing instructions and for Chinese New Year we followed our instructions which we had written to make a delicious stir fry. We enjoying learning lots about birds in outdoor learning and we tried to identify which species of birds we have at school. In maths we have been busy exploring measurement and shape and we have also had a fantastic time learning to play the ukuleles .
December
We have had such a lot of fun in December! The Year 2's have completed scooter training on a very chilly morning. In DT we built Elf Buggies and raced them which we all loved. In RE we made Christingles and in our English experience day we acted out the Nativity Story. Our Christmas Dinner and Party day was full of games, dancing and excitement! Also, we have had an Elf visitor, Buddy, in our classroom who has been watching over us making sure we have all been good whilst leaving us little surprises every day. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
November
We started November with Odd Socks Day and from then onwards the month has been jam packed with so many different things! Miss Dixon was very impressed when we made autumn journey sticks in geography. We have been lucky enough to have had a bank workshop and an anti-bullying workshop too in school. In RE we have learnt all about advent and made advent wreaths and we have had an afternoon of outdoor learning with Mrs Butterworth. We now have our decorations up and are all very excited for December and Christmas!
October
In October we have continued to learn about The Great Fire of London. We had a fantastic history day with Catherine where we had to identify and draw lots of different artifacts, we practiced writing with quills and ink and played games they would have played at the time too!
September
Welcome back! In Class 1 we have had a very busy September! We have made some delicious sandwiches fit for 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch' and acted out the story with puppets. Also we have been exploring different line and mark making techniques as well as acting out ways in which The Great Fire of London would have been put out and creating movements to the Christian creation story. What a fantastic start to the year! We can't wait for lots more exciting things to come!
